Omaha Man Accidentally Shoots Himself

An Omaha man is facing charges after shooting himself in the hand Tuesday morning.

The 30 year old told police that he was sitting on his couch at home when he "must have fallen asleep" holding his new pistol. He told officers he woke up around 4:30 to a loud bang, the sound of his gun going off, and saw he shot one of his fingers. The man's wife and children were home at the time, but were asleep and not injured.

The man was transported to the hospital for surgical treatment of the gunshot wound to his left pinky finger. Officers cited him for having an unregistered firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
