Omaha Police have identified the officer injured in a fall late Wednesday night as Brian Schmaderer, the brother of Chief Todd Schmaderer. He fell about ten feet off a catwalk through a drop ceiling while searching for a suspect, according to Officer Greg O'Neill.
The incident happened at the Post Office near 24th and M streets.
Schmaderer and other officers were checking an alarm call at 11:30 p.m., and found evidence of a burglary. The officers were going through the building, when Brian Schmaderer was injured.
Other officers found him unconscious but he was alert by the time medics transported him to the hospital. He reportedly suffered a head injury but is expected to recover.
