A Texas woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death in West Omaha on Saturday will not face charges in his death.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that 30 year old Crystal Gross was defending herself from her abusive boyfriend, 34 year old Amir Bey, when she stabbed him at a home near 169th and Grand Avenue. "After reviewing the evidence, photographs and all the interviews from the evidence as we know it, her actions appear to be justified and her use of force."
Kleine says Gross and Bey were in town for Gross' sister's wedding and were headed back to the bride's home when they began arguing. "I think alcohol was a factor that was involved, he was driving, he raised his hand at her. She got out of the vehicle, ran into a field, fell, it was obvious that there was quite a bit of mud on her clothing."
Bey was able to get Gross back into the car, and they went back to the house, but the incident escalated from there. Kleine says some neighbors heard Gross yelling and approached the couple, but left after thinking everything was okay. "The two of them entered the house, they had an argument. She was hit by him several times. He had pulled her hair when she tried to go up the stairs to the bedroom, pulling out a piece of her hair and scalp."
Kleine says Gross told authorities she was just trying to keep Bey away from her, but he wouldn't listen. "She went in the kitchen, got a knife. Allegedly he said something to the effect of, 'What are you gonna do with that?' She said, 'I just want you to get away from me.' He came at her again and she stabbed him one time and that led to his death."
Gross called 911 and tended to him until medics arrived. Bey was transported to the hospital where he later died from a single stab wound to the chest. Kleine says they have concluded their investigation, Gross will be released from the Douglas County Jail and be allowed to return back to her home in Houston, Texas.
