The company that planned to redevelop the land once home to the Civic Auditorium have brought their plans to a grinding halt.
In a letter sent to Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert on Tuesday, Project 19 LLC said they are scrapping the project. In the letter, the company said they had been excited to spearhead the project and looked forward to making a lasting impact on the Omaha metro, but ended up having too many concerns. Among those concerns were a delay in the demolition of the building, which was supposed to be done in 2016 but wasn't finished until 2017.
Project 19 also said with the city's plans to develop Lot B by TD Ameritrade Park, the Riverfront and Gene Leahy Mall made an impact on their plans at the Civic Auditorium site. Conagra's decision to relocate its headquarters to Chicago impacted the developer's decision as well.
The company says that while they could overcome some of those obstacles, when combined they proved to be too much.
