Facebook will be expanding their operations center in Sarpy County.
the social media giant announced on Monday that they plan on adding four additional buildings to their campus in Papillion. Original plans called for two buildings, on 146 acres of land, situated on either side of Highway 50 about two miles north of Springfield. The buildings will be connected by a tunnel.
Current construction of the center has become the daily workplace of more than 1,000 construction workers, who combined have invested more than one million work hours. The build also means hundreds more will be employed at the center when it is finished. Construction on the new expansion is slated to begin in May with all buildings to be complete in 2023.
The Papillion center is Facebook's ninth data center globally, and sixth facility in the U.S. Facebook joins other other Sarpy County data centers including Fidelity Investments, Travelers Insurance, Cabela's and PayPal.
