Multiple Fires Break Out Across Metro

A number of fires across the metro have displaced families and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage. 

Omaha fire investigators say a three-alarm blaze destroyed a West Omaha condo complex Tuesday night. That fire, near 168th and Dodge, was the result of a soldering mishap while a new water heater was being installed. fire crews were to the Cambridge Villas at 166th and Chicago around 8:45 after reports of smoke coming from a vacant apartment. The blaze was elevated to a second alarm shortly after 9 p.m. and to a third at 9:42. Officials say the building was a total loss estimated at $471,100.  Four residents were displaced.

Another fire Tuesday night was caused by a juvenile playing with fire. No injuries were reported at the home near 13th and Martha , but three children and four adults were displaced. 

The third fire came early Wednesday morning near 49th and Frances. Crews arrived on the scene just after 7:30 to find smoke and flames billowing from the home. Two cats died in the fire, but one pet was rescued. No injuries were reported in the fire that forced three people from their home. Investigators are working to determine what sparked the fire in the basement of the house.
