Trooper; Driver Injured In Overnight Crash

A Nebraska State Patrol Trooper is recovering after being injured in a crash on I-680 early Tuesday morning.

Omaha Police say the trooper was parked in his cruiser on the northbound shoulder of the interstate just past Dodge when an SUV rear-ended him around 1:45. The impact forced both vehicles off the roadway and into a ditch.

The trooper and SUV driver were both taken to Bergan Mercy for treatment of their injuries. The trooper reportedly suffered serious injuries, but in a tweet, the Nebraska State Patrol said the trooper is expected to survive. The SUV driver reportedly suffered critical injuries in the crash, but there has not been an update on their condition at this time.

The accident shut down three lanes of traffic on I-680 for about two hours. The crash remains under investigation.
