A former physical education teacher at Highland Elementary School in Omaha has been sentenced after being found guilty of selling methamphetamine.
Judge George Thompson sentenced Jesse Stull to five years probation. He will have to complete ten hours of community service be subject to random drug testing.
Stull was arrested for delivery of methamphetamine in March 2017. He was the focus of a meth trafficking investigation that began a few months prior.
In court on Monday Stull apologized to everyone. "I would like to first of all apologize for my actions. I'd like to apologize to the community, the school district and my family. Today I have a solution to a problem that I've had for a long time. I know that I'm an addict and that it's something that I have to address each and every day in order to keep moving forward."
His attorney told the court that since his arrest he has changed his ways and completed a drug abuse program. Judge Thompson acknowledged the steps Stull has taken in considering his sentence.
"You said, 'if I didn't get arrested, I'd probably be dead right now.' and 'the single worst day of my life turned into a blessing in disguise.' I bring those up because you have demonstrated to work through your actions, what you've done."
Stull's attorney said "He showed his head and his heart are in the right place. He's not going through the motions just to appease some court system, he's doing it for himself first and foremost which is very evident."
