Fire Forces Family Of Five Out Of Their Home

Fire heavily damaged an Omaha home and left two family pets dead Sunday night.  Investigators say no one was home at the start of the fire near 45th and Izard, but one of the residents arrived home just before 9:00 to find the basement full of smoke.

The resident found the fire and tried to put the flames out.  But the smoke became too much and he exited the home and called 911.   Investigators were able to determine the fire was caused by over loaded electrical wires.

Five residents were displaced and Red Cross was called to assist them. One cat and one dog died in the fire.  Damage is estimated at $40-thousand.
