Spill From Derailed Coal Car Injures Motorist

One person was taken to the hospital early Sunday morning when a train derailed and dumped coal onto an SUV near 84th and F Street.

The investigation continues into what caused the cars to jump the track around 12:30 a.m.  Union Pacific spokesperson Kristen South tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB five cars derailed.  Four of them spilled and the other one was upright.  The train was headed to Nebraska City from Omaha.

One of the cars fell onto a nearby truck and injured a contractor who was in the vehicle. According to Omaha Police, the victim suffered a leg injury and was taken in for treatment but is expected to recover.

The vehicle was partially damaged.
