Iowa's Medical Marijuana Program Draws 21 Applications

Seven companies have proposed 21 locations around the state of Iowa to open medical marijuana dispensaries.  The cities of Des Moines, Davenport, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Iowa City, Sioux City, Waterloo, and Cedar Falls all had multiple locations proposed.

The Iowa Department of Public Health will select five locations on April 1, and the medical marijuana dispensaries will begin operation in December of this year.

MedPharm is Iowa's first licensed manufacturer of medical marijuana products and estimates more than 6,000 customers in Iowa are waiting for the dispensaries to open.  MedPharm is building a marijuana production facility in Des Moines.
