Man Barricaded Inside Omaha Home After Firing Shots

Residents living near 36th and Lauren have been on edge since a man armed with a gun barricaded himself inside a house around 7:30 Thursday morning.  Omaha Police say it began when the man stepped outside and fired a gun.

"We got here, set up a perimeter around the house and since officers were in harm's way we called out the SWAT team," says Captain Mark Matuza.  Neighbors said the man fired two shots outside the house before before going back inside.

"He's dangerous." As a result, police are taking a cautious approach. "We're handling this with kid gloves right now," Matuza says.

Deputy Chief Kerry Neumann says "During the incident SWAT tried to communicate with the suspect inside the house. At that time there was a report, sounded like a gunshot that came from inside the house. No officers were injured."

Some nearby homes have been evacuated.   Police have urged residents to stay inside for their safety.
