Child Critically Injured In I-80 Crash Dies

A five year old boy injured in a Tuesday morning crash has died from his injuries.

A Nebraska Medicine spokesperson says that Cameron Philpott died after suffering a life-threatening head injury in the crash early Tuesday morning.

Omaha Police say 28 year old Cory Phillips was eastbound on I-80 near 72nd Street around 5:15 when he lost control of his 2006 Honda Accord on the icy roadway. A witness told police the Honda was then rear-ended by a semi truck that was behind the car.

Philpott was restrained in a child seat in the back of the Honda when it was struck. Philpott was taken to Bergan Mercy after the accident, but was later transferred to Nebraska Medicine for further treatment.

Phillips and the semi driver were not injured in the crash. Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
