Child Suffers Critical Injuries In Early Morning Crash

A five year old child suffered a life-threatening head injury in a Tuesday morning accident that shut down parts of I-80 for two hours.

Omaha Police say 28 year old Cory Phillips was eastbound on I-80 near 72nd Street around 5:15 when he lost control of his 2006 Honda Accord on the icy roadway. A witness told police the Honda was then rear-ended by a semi truck that was behind the car.

Five year old Cameron Philpott was in a child seat in the back of the Honda when it was struck. He was transported to Bergan Mercy with a head injury that is considered life-threatening. Phillips and the semi driver were not injured in the crash.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
