Blowing Snow Makes For Difficult Commute Tuesday Morning

Snow mixed with high winds caused big problems for metro commuters Tuesday morning. Dozens of crashes were reported during the morning commute, many with injuries.

Snow showers combined with high winds gusting up to 55 MPH greatly reduced visibility and caused snow to blow back over cleared roadways. The conditions made for quite possibly one of the worst morning commutes of the season as visibility was near zero at times.

Snow and wind is expected to continue through the rest of the morning and should wrap up between 2:00-3:00 PM. Expect lingering flurries and wind throughout the day, but the bulk of the system will move to the southeast. Highs will top out near the freezing mark.

Overnight into Wednesday winds will slowly die down with partly to mostly cloudy skies with lows in the middle 20's. Wednesday some winds gusting near 30 MPH might cause some snow to blow back over the roads, but overall the driving conditions for the commute will be much better than Tuesday. Expect partly cloudy skies through the day with highs in the middle to upper 30s.
