Woman Charged With Child Abuse Appears In Court

Bond has been set at $200,000 for a Sarpy County woman accused of throwing her child against a wall. April Renshaw is charged with felony child abuse.

Bellevue Police went to Renshaw's home on February 20th to check on her well-being.  Officers found her two sons inside, an 11-month-old and an 8-year-old. Investigators say they received information that Renshaw had allegedly thrown the youngest child against a wall in the home.

That night both children were removed from Renshaw's care and placed with family members. The 11-month-old child was taken to Children's Hospital by his father.  Officers took Renshaw into custody and she was transported for medical treatment. They were later informed that the 11-month-old child had suffered significant bruising on his head and face.

The child also had various small burn injuries on his body. Police believe April Renshaw caused those injuries.

Further information was received indicating a reported history of abusive behavior toward the children inside the home.   The judge has ordered that Renshaw have no contact with her two children or any other children under 18.

Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 27
