OPS Passes Resolution Against Arming Teachers

The Omaha Public School Board weighed-in Monday on the nationwide debate over potentially arming America’s teachers.

The board voted Monday on a resolution opposing the arming of teachers. It states, “Teachers are not trained law enforcement officers, and should not be asked or incentivized to keep weapons accessible in their classrooms.”

In the aftermath of the deadly Parkland, Florida shooting OPS says it stands with Broward County Public Schools in demanding, “effective and comprehensive action from the federal government to protect schoolchildren."

The resolution also calls on congress to ban the manufacture, sale and possession of assault weapons and large-capacity ammunition cartridges. Read the full resolution HERE.
