Shopping malls are use to seeing big crowds on the weekend, but the hundreds that came to Oakview Mall on Sunday were'nt there to shop.
Nearly 400 people packed into the mall to raise money and awareness for programs that benefit adults with developmental disabilities. Sunday's fundraiser was the 11th year The Meyer Foundation for Disabilities hosted their "Walk and Roll for Disabilities."
Meyer Foundation President Mary McHale tells 6 News that funds go towards activities and programs for disabled adults. “We saw that there was a gap once the individual with development disability turned 21 and aged out of the educational system." Some programs include book, garden, and cooking clubs, which help the participants experience a more normal life.
Sunday's walk helped raise more than $40,000, but more donations are always needed. If you'd like to donate you can do so on the foundation's website here.
