Changes Coming To Some Douglas County Polling Places

Heads up. Some voters in Douglas County will be seeing a change in their polling place for the May primary election.

Some changes include the number of polling places in Douglas County, which will increase from 217 from the 2016 elections to 221 for the 2018 elections. Douglas County Election Commissioner Brian Kruse tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB that changes are part of the normal course of business. "Douglas County has seen growth in our population, so there have been some new precincts that have added and we always have some precincts that can't be polling places for whatever reason."

Kruse says about twenty polling places will be impacted by the changes. “Approximately 10 percent of Douglas County polling places will be affected. These changes are caused by growth, a building being temporarily unavailable to serve as a polling place due to construction or a scheduling conflict, changes in building ownership, or a new building becomes available that will offer a better voting experience for voters."

Voters whose polling place will be affected by these changes will be sent a postcard in April. "Any voter who has had a polling place change will get a yellow postcard from our office about a month before the election."

The 2018 Statewide Gubernatorial Primary Election will be on Tuesday, May 15th, 2018.
