York High School Students Honor Elkhorn Coach At Basketball Tournament

Competition couldn't stop two communities from coming together on Thursday to honor the life of a baby girl.

When Elkhorn and York high schools met in the girls state basketball tournament, there was nothing but love and support. York fans donned purple at the game, even though their school colors are navy and gold. The York students wore purple to honor Elkhorn Assistant Coach Ben Meyer and his daughter Logan, who died Saturday night. Meyer and his wife lost their daughter after she was born prematurely at 22 weeks.

On Meyer's Twitter account he said Logan will always be with him. "She is my hero and I will never forget her." The post included a single purple heart as purple is the color of premature birth awareness.

Elkhorn would go on to beat York 42 to 30 in the tournament and after the game, Meyer thanked York and their fans for the support saying, "Just a class act all around."

A GoFundMe page has been established to help Meyer and his family get through this difficult time. You can find it here
