The son of former University of Nebraska Athletic Director Shawn Eichorst has been charged with distributing child pornography.
18 year old Jack Eichorst was charged with the felony during a court appearance Friday morning. Eichorst was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bond and was barred from using the internet by the judge.
Eichorst was initially arrested on suspicion of sexual assault late last year, but those charges were not filed. The Eichorst family released the following statement in response to the new developments. "After 4 months of much public scrutiny based on an uncharged sexual assault allegation, we are pleased that the County Attorney has decided not to pursue the matter. Although we are very disappointed with the decision to proceed with an unrelated allegation, and will defend him vigorously, please know that Jack is a gentle, compassionate, vulnerable and trusting boy with Autism.
Also in the statement the family said, "He recently turned 18 years of age on October 2, 2017 however, his level of sophistication and maturity is not that of an 18-year-old. Jack has significant developmental disabilities and special needs who lives a very private and dependent life. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support for Jack. We ask the public to please reserve judgment and respect the family's privacy."
Eichorst is due back in court March 21 for a preliminary hearing.
