Expect Sirens Saturday In Douglas & Sarpy County

The sirens will sound on Saturday but there is nothing to fear.  The Douglas County Emergency Management Agency will begin testing their Outdoor Warning Siren System for the 2018 season.  The sirens in Sarpy County will also be tested Saturday

Douglas County will first sound the sirens at 11 a.m.  The second round of testing will take place 30 minutes later.

The First routine monthly test for the 2018 season will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4th.  Routine monthly tests will also take place at 11 a.m. on May 2nd, June 6th, July 4th, August 1st, September 5th and October 3rd.  There will also be a special test on March 28th at approximately 10 a.m. as part of the National Weather Service Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Sarpy County Emergency Management and Sarpy County Emergency Communications will test sirens at 10 a.m. Saturday and again at 10:30 a.m.  During each test the sirens will sound for three minutes, the same as in a real weather emergency.

Starting in April, siren tests are scheduled for 10 a.m. on the first Saturday of each month through October.  Officials say as the siren tests resume for the year it is a great opportunity for families and businesses to review their severe weather emergency plan.
