Six People Sent To Hospital After House Fire

The Omaha Fire Department is reminding residents to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes after a fire sent six people to the hospital Wednesday night.

Crews responded to the home near 75th and Mary just after 11:00. Investigators say two adults and four children were in the home when the fire broke out, but they were able to get out. Two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Four others were transported in serious condition.

Two dogs were rescued from the flames, but three cats died in the fire. The Nebraska Humane Society was on the scene to provide aid for the animals. The cause remains under investigation.

The Omaha Fire Department says there were no smoke detectors in the home. Officials want to remind the public that they offer smoke detectors and installation for free by calling 402-444-3560.
