Now that the calendar has flipped to March area golfers will have a chance to cure their cabin fever. The City of Omaha's four 18-hole golf courses, Benson, Elmwood, Johnny Goodman and Knolls, will be open to the public by Friday.
Golfers can call or schedule a tee time online. City of Omaha Golf Manager Bob Baber says the long, cold winter has left quite a void.
"Typically here in Nebraska you get one or two rounds in every month all year long. We have not had any golf in Omaha since a week or two before Christmas."
Baber says there will be some cart restrictions and golfers may still see a few signs of winter on the courses. "The heavily shaded areas around the bridges and underpasses still have some snow on it. But As far as the fareway's, they're 95 percent open. There may be a few patches of snow, but nothing too bad," Baber says.
No timetable has been given for the opening of the city's nine-hole golf courses.
"Omaha's golfers have the opportunity to play on improved city courses (this year)," Parks Director Brook Bench said in a news release. "We continue to develop our courses and have enhanced many clubhouses over the past few years with structural improvements, brand new shelters, and several repaired cart paths."
