Iowa Mom Who Left Kids Home Alone During Europe Trip Takes Plea Deal

An Iowa mom accused of leaving her children at home alone to go on a European vacation is taking a plea deal.

In September Erin Macke, of Johnston, reportedly left her four children, ages twelve, seven and six, alone while she traveled to Germany for a ten day vacation. The children's father called police once he discovered that his children had been left with no supervision.

Macke entered an Alford plea in Polk County District Court on Monday. In exchange for her plea to four counts of Child Endangerment, prosecutors will drop a charge of Making a Firearm Available to a Person Under 21. Alford pleas are not an admission of guilt, but acknowledges that there likely is enough evidence to get a conviction.

Macke is expected to be sentenced on April 19th.
