Omaha Sports Legend Don Leahy Dies At 88

The man who is credited with getting Division One hockey established at UNO has died.  Don Leahy was 88 years old and had been in ill health.  He was twice the athletic director at UNO, from 1974-85 and again from 1994-97.

It was during his second stint at UNO when he became the driving force behind the Mavericks starting a Division I hockey program in 1997.

He was also Creighton's athletic director from 1985-90 and was the head football coach at Creighton Prep for 17 years, winning eight state championships before leaving in 1972.
