City Unveils Snowplow GPS Tracking System

It's been a busy winter so far for Omaha street crews as they work to clear snow from the roadways. If you're wondering where Omaha street plows and trucks are working following a snowy or icy conditions event, you can now find out on the City of Omaha's website. All snowplows in the city are now equipped with GPS tracking so residents can see the status of crew’s work.

Street Maintenance Engineer Austin Rowser says a map will show where snow cleanup has been done, where's it's currently plowing and what areas still wait to see the trucks and plows."We wanted to put that all together to where citizens could see trucks working. They can see status of their areas, status of the routes that they would use where ever they're going to get through their day."

Rowser says the map is updated constantly and gives motorists better information so they can better navigate in wintry conditions. You can find the map on the city's website here.
