Classes To Resume Thursday At Plattsmouth High School

Plattsmouth students will return to classes on Thursday to an increased law enforcement presence after threats prompted the cancellation of classes Wednesday.

Plattsmouth Superintendent Dr. Richard Hasty said local deputies and a canine unit searched the high school Wednesday to ensure that the building was safe.

Authorities in Cass County say the second threat against the Plattsmouth Community Schools that prompted cancellation of classes Wednesday was not credible. In the case of the first threat, two teens were questioned by the Sheriff's Department after authorities received information investigators deemed a credible threat.

In a joint news release, the Sheriff’s Office and the Plattsmouth High School administration revealed that two male students, ages 15 and 16, were developing “terroristic plans" but had not yet acted.

The teens, with their parents, have been interviewed regarding the threats. Officials said the weapon that the teens had intended to use has been accounted for and has been secured. Detectives searched personal property but officials said no additional evidence was found.

Hasty said students will see an increased law enforcement presence when they return to school. School officials said support will be available to assist students as needed.   Hasty also apologized for an error in the school's alert system that resulted in some parents not receiving the initial message.
