Metropolitan Area Planning Agency Breaks Down Busiest Roads

Drivers in the metro area are on the move and Omaha streets are a bit more crowded because of it.

Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Area Planning Agency Executive Director Greg Youell says traffic growth increased two-percent since their last report in 2014, with two areas specifically making big jumps. "Northwestern Douglas County, near the Bennington area, and western Sarpy County. That kind of tracks with what's to be expected where you have new development and you see traffic counts rise."

Youell says some of the busiest intersections could be pretty easy to guess. "90th and Dodge is the busiest intersection in the metro area. It has 102,000 vehicles per weekday. Second and third are 72nd and Dodge and 72nd and Pacific."

The busiest interstate interchange, Youell says, sees about a quarter of a million drivers every weekday. "When you look at where the freeways come together, the interchange where 480, Kennedy Freeway and I-80 come together we have 254,700 per weekday travelling through that interchange."

All those cars on the roads means 18.6 million vehicle miles are traveled by metro motorists everyday.
