Ice, Wind Keeping OPPD Crews Busy

Monday's wind and ice left thousands of OPPD customers in the dark.  As of 2:00 Monday afternoon about 2,000 customers were still without power.  OPPD spokesperson Paula Lukowski says most of the outages were reported in Douglas and Saunders Counties.

"While crews have made some progress restoring power during this morning’s icy, windy weather, the issues they are working with will require extended work."  She says power is not expected to be fully restored to all areas until 10 p.m. Monday night.

However, with more ice in the forecast tonight, that estimate could change. "Our crews will continue to work as weather allows them to do so safely," Lukowski says.   She says workers have encountered some treacherous roads and hazardous conditions as they travel around to make the repairs.

Officials remind people to stay away from downed wires and power poles and anyone who finds a downed line should call 911 or OPPD at 1-800-554-6773. You can find a map of current outages here.
