Cases Of Salmonella Reported In Iowa Linked To Fareway Product

Nearly 30 people in Iowa have gotten sick after eating tainted chicken salad from a popular grocery chain. 

Public health officials say 28 people in Iowa have been sickened by the chicken salad from Fareway grocery stores. Authorities say another 66 illnesses could be linked to the product.

Any consumers that may have the chicken salad in their fridges are advised to throw away the salad bought at Fareway. The tainted product was produced between December 15th and February 13th and was sold in plastic deli containers with a Fareway store deli label.

The chicken salad was sold at stores in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Salmonella, a bacterial illness, can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. Some people develop severe symptoms that require hospitalization.
