Lincoln Mall Security Guard Found Handcuffed

The search is on in Lincoln for two thieves who overpowered a security guard and stole his keys.

Shortly after 4:00 Thursday morning officers responded to a burglary at Gateway Mall at 61st and O Street.  They found the 35-year-old security guard handcuffed to a rail. He told police he was doing his rounds when two men pepper sprayed him and handcuffed him to the rail.

One of the men had a handgun and they stole the guard's keys. The two men then attempted to break into an ATM but reportedly weren't able to access any cash. The men also stole merchandise from the Piercing Pagoda.

The men then used the security guard’s keys to steal the mall security vehicle.  The guard was checked out at the hospital.   Anyone with information is encouraged to call Lincoln Police at 402-441-6000.
