A judge on Thursday set bond at $500,000 for a woman accused of scamming people out of thousands of dollars.
Julie Cahlaway is accused of targeting a recently the recently divorced Nebraska man online. She allegedly moved to Omaha and forged an ultrasound to convince the victim she was pregnant and needed money for medical bills.
The investigation alleges that over a year’s time she fraudulently obtained $375,000 from men she met through online dating services.
An arrest affidavit filed by a Douglas County Sheriff’s investigator states Cahlaway promised to invest the family’s money in oil ventures but instead spent it on herself. Cahlaway is also accused of scamming a third victim by selling a car that did not belong to her.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine told 6 News "She’s currently on probation in another state for the same type of activity and was previously convicted in another state for similar activity,” said Kleine.
