Woman Reportedly Steals Thousands Of Dollars In Dating Scam

An Illinois woman is behind bars in Douglas County after authorities say she stolen thousands of dollars through an elaborate online dating scheme.

Julie Cahlaway allegedly moved to Omaha and faked ultrasound pictures to get money from a recently divorced Nebraska man. Authorities say she told the victim that she was pregnant and needed money for medical bills. An investigation alleges that over the span of a year Cahlaway was able to get $375,000 from men she met through online dating websites.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s investigator says Cahlaway promised to invest money in oil ventures but spent it a BMW, designer clothing and even expensive tropical fish. Another victim claims Cahlaway scammed several thousand dollars from him during a sham car deal.

Cahlaway faces two counts of Felony Theft by Deception.
