It was a close call for a Council Bluffs Police officer after he was nearly run over by a suspect's vehicle early Tuesday morning.
Shortly after midnight, a help an officer call came out from the Kwik Shop near 36th and Avenue G. An officer was walking up to the storefront, and recognized a suspect in a Chevy Tahoe who he believed had active arrest warrants. The officer approached the vehicle and ordered the suspect out of the SUV. That is when authorities say the suspect threw the car into reverse, trapping the officer's hand in the door. The officer managed to stay on his feet while the vehicle drug him approximately 20 to 30 feet.
The suspect was then able to flee from the officer by speeding off onto I-29, possibly headed into Omaha. The suspect is described as a white male in his early to mid 20's. He is driving an early 2000's Chevy Tahoe painted with a black, undercoating type of spray paint.
The officer suffered minor injuries to his leg, which did not require medical attention. He was able to return to duty after the incident.
