Winter Weather Advisory Starts at 6 p.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect for areas of Nebraska and southwest Iowa tonight into tomorrow. 

The advisory includes Cass, Dodge, Douglas, Lancaster, Sarpy, Saunders, Seward and Washington Counties starting at 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. This advisory includes Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie and Shelby Counties in Iowa. 

Cathy Zapotocny with the National Weather Service in Valley tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB 2 to 3 inches of snow is possible with this system.  The snowfall will pick up around 10 or 11 p.m. Friday and continue into the morning hours.  She says there are some pockets in the advisory area that could pick up 4 inches before it moves out of the area around 6 a.m. 

Travelers need to be prepared for slick spots and snow covered roads.  Visibility may also be difficult but strong wind is not expected with this snowfall. 

The advisory  is already in effect for Boone, Butler, Colfax and Platte Counties and will remain in effect until 2 a.m. Saturday. 

The advisory goes into effect at 9 p.m. tonight for Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Audubon, Cass, Clarke, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Guthrie, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren and Wayne Counties in Central Iowa and will will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday.
