Tow Truck Driver Cited In Deadly Bellevue Crash

Bellevue Police say a tow truck driver will face charges in connection with a crash that killed two men on Highway 75 in Bellevue last month.

57 year old James Helbert of Bellevue has been cited for misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Homicide and Careless Driving in connection with a the early morning crash on Highway 75 near Chandler Road on January 5th.

Investigators say a Pontiac Grand Prix had stalled in the turning lane to exit the highway and was not on the shoulder.  The car did not have hazard lights on. 

Police say Shamus Dean pulled his pickup to the side of the road to assist with the stalled car and that no hazard lights were activated on the truck.

Helbert was driving an AR Tow Truck southbound when it crashed into the Pontiac and the Chevy.  Dean and 19 year old Khalil Shemar Jones, who was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, were killed.  Two others in Jones' car were injured, including a 15-year-old girl.  Shen remains under medical care.

The crash remains under investigation.
