Former Omaha Officer Enters Not Guilty Plea

A former Omaha Police officer facing charges in connection to the in-custody death of Zachary Bearheels appeared in court again on Wednesday. 

In his arraignment hearing, Scotty Payne entered a plea of not guilty for the charges of Deadly Use of a Weapon and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony. Charges were filed against Payne after the death of Bearheels in June of 2017. Payne discharged his taser on Bearheels twelve times during the course of the incident at the Bucky's gas station on 60th and Center.

Payne's next court appearance will be March 12th far a pre-trial conference. A tentative trial date has been set for November 26.
