Changes Coming To Millard Schools

Big changes could be coming to Millard Public School at the middle school level next year due to stagnant growth.

Research showed MPS that students need to spend more time in core subject classes. So in response to that information, officials are reducing the eight period day to seven periods. Time in each class will increase from 43 to 51 minutes, which means 30 class periods in each subject, each school year.

MPS will also combine 6th and 7th grade reading into English language courses and will add an elective reading course to the curriculum.

French and German language classes will also be phased out at the middle school level. Students currently in those courses will be allowed to continue taking them. An exploratory French and German course will be added in 8th grade for those who want to try the languages before they enter high school. Spanish will continue to be offered in 6th through 8th grade.

Due to these proposed changes, teachers will be reassigned, but no jobs will be lost.
