Man Killed In Crash Just North Of Omaha

One man is dead after a single vehicle crash just north of Omaha Sunday night.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office officials say deputies were called to the area of 72nd Street and Dutch Hall Road just after 7:00. They say a Metropolitan Utilities District crew was working in the area and found the crash site.

The unrestrained driver, 29 year old Adam Bortle of Omaha, was declared dead at the scene by Irvington Fire & Rescue. Authorities say Bortle's vehicle was southbound on 72nd approaching Dutch Hall Road when he appeared to lose control as it crossed the intersection. The vehicle then crossed the center line and left the roadway to the east. The car became airborne as it went into the ditch before landing on its roof in a creek bed at the bottom of the ditch.

Speed is considered a factor in this crash, and authorities are waiting on results of an autopsy to determine if drugs or alcohol use were also a factor.

Bortle was the only occupant of the car, but two dogs were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. One dog was trapped inside the car when crews arrived, the second was located wandering just south of the crash site. Both dogs were turned over to the Nebraska Humane Society.
