Students at Creighton Heider College of Business will again participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program known as VITA. The students are majoring in either accounting or finance along with members of the accounting fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi to offer free tax help to members of the Omaha Community.
Coordinator Erica McDonald says the program is designed to help certain individuals. She says, "This is for low income individuals. That is typically those under the $54,000 range and the elderly and the disabled. This includes students too."
The student volunteers are IRS certified and utilize this opportunity to serve others. This is on a first come, first served basis and individuals need to bring an I.D. and all necessary tax documents.
Student volunteers will be hosting three sessions during the month of February. The first is Sunday, February 4th from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Harper Center, Room 3023. The next session is Sunday, February 11th from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Harper Center Ballroom. The final session is Sunday, February 24th from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Harper Center, Room 3023.
The accounting program at Creighton has partnered with the IRS VITA program for more than 40 years.
