A man is sentenced in a deadly accident last July at the I-80/680 split.  Nemias Garcia-Velasco was behind the wheel of a van that crashed killing Silvano Torres who was unrestrained in the cargo area.  The van hit a guard rail and caught on fire and Torres died at the scene.

Garcia-Velasco had been charged with Motor Vehicle Homicide, Reckless Driving, No Operators License and DUI.  A judge sentenced him to 10 to 12 years in prison.

He also may be facing federal charges due to his immigration status.  He is not in the country legally.  Records show he has been deported twice and was voluntarily removed five times.  He also has one false citizenship conviction.
