One man is in the hospital after a run-in with Council Bluffs Police early Thursday morning.

Council Bluffs Police say just after 3:00 an officer was responding to a call for a suspicious vehicle in a business parking lot near Frank Street and East Broadway. While trying to take the driver into custody, the officer fired his weapon, hitting the driver.

After being shot, the driver of the car sped off the lot and crashed, flipping the car onto its roof. The driver then tried fleeing on foot, but was captured after a short foot chase.

The driver was taken to Nebraska Medicine in critical condition for treatment of his injuries. The names of the driver and officer involved have not yet been released. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
