Family Of Murdered Army Sergeant Launches Campaign To Battle Crime

Just three weeks ago the family of Kyle LeFlore had their lives flipped upside down when the Army Sergeant was killed outside of an Omaha bar. Kyle had been shot during a robbery at the Reign Lounge while on a short visit home from South Korea.

Now, LeFlore's family and community leaders are rolling out a new campaign that emphasizes the importance of reporting crimes. Kyle's father Kay tells 6 News that the public needs to look out for one another. "As long as the community is talking about it, that's got to give criminals and murders something to fear.”

In fact, it is thanks to tips from the community that two men were arrested in connection to Kyle's murder. LeFlore's family hopes that their story encourages other witnesses to report crimes they've seen or know about. Kay says he hopes the 'If You See It - Hear About It -Report It!' can help other families who are looking for answers. "I'm just hoping that this initiative, plus social media, plus people that are fed up with crime will join in on us and we can make some difference.”

The campaign message can be seen across the metro starting this week on billboards, bus benches and posters. Organizers hope it will reduce violence if criminals know they won't be protected by silence.

Witnesses always have the option to report a crime anonymously by calling Omaha Crime Stoppers 402-444-STOP.
