$20K Raised For Parkinson's Research

A break from the brutal cold helped raise more money for Parkinson's research at UNMC on Friday and Saturday.

As temperatures pushed into the 50s on Saturday, more than 600 ice skaters turned out for UNMC's Skate-a-thon for Parkinson's Disease.  When the 24 hour skate-a-thon ended more than $20,000 had been raised.

The benefit is held in memory of founder Colleen Wuebben, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2005 at the age of 52.  She died at age 60.

A handful of skaters were able to skate through the full 24-hours of the event. All the money raised goes toward research at UNMC and to help fund services to those living with Parkinson's.

Over the past eight years, the skate-a-thon has netted more than $190,000.
