Man Flees Crash; Caught After Talking About It At A Bar

A 27 year old Omaha man is behind bars after fleeing the scene of a crash that left a woman seriously injured.

Omaha Police say just before 10:00 Thursday night officers were called to an injury crash at 144th and Eagle Run Drive. Investigators determined a Mazda 6 was making a wide turn from eastbound Eagle Run onto southbound 144th when it was rear-ended by a southbound Dodge Ram pickup. The impact forced both vehicles over the raised median and across the northbound lanes before coming to a rest along the east curb.

The driver of the truck, Alexander Williams, fled the scene of the accident on foot. An extensive search by ABEL 1, Omaha Police and Douglas County K-9's was unable to locate the driver of the Dodge until about 11:45. A caller to 911 told operators a suspicious man, who matched Williams' description, at Billy O's Lounge near 142nd and Fort was telling people he was involved in a crash. As officers arrived at the bar, williams was seen fleeing, but was quickly apprehended. It was determined that Williams was the driver of the Dodge truck and had been making statements to several patrons about the incident.

Williams was booked into Douglas county Jail on charges of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury-Serious Injury, DUI-Refusal, DUI-Serious Bodily Injury and Obstructing a Police Officer.

The driver of the Mazda, 29 year old Kirstin Berray, was taken to CHI Bergan Mercy with a critical head injury. The passenger in the Mazda, 29 year old Lindsay Ray was not injured in the crash.
