A 55 year old man wanted for sexually assaulting a child in Sarpy County has been found dead in Kansas. Last October Bellevue Police began an investigation into a report of sexual assault of a child.

During the investigation, information was obtained which identified a suspect in the case as 55 year old, Scott J. Hunter of Bellevue.    On January 24, 2018, an arrest warrant was issued by Sarpy County Court for the arrest of Hunter.  The warrant was for several criminal charges, including 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.

Since January 24 Bellevue Police have been working with the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office-Warrants Division in conjunction with the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force, in an attempt to take him into custody.

On Friday afternoon, Bellevue Police and the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office were notified by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation that Hunter was located in a rural field in Decatur County Kansas.  Hunter was found dead inside his vehicle.  It is believed that his death was due to a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.
