OPS Board Names Top Superintendent Candidates

The Omaha Public Schools Board of Education announced its top candidates for the superintendent's job during a meeting Tuesday night.

The board approved the two finalist candidates recommended by the board’s national search firm and partner, Ray and Associates.

•Dr. Cheryl Logan, Chief Academic Officer, School District of Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

•Mr. Harrison Peters, Deputy Superintendent/Chief of Schools, Hillsborough County Schools, Tampa, Florida.

“The pool of candidates included a number of highly-qualified and experienced public school administrators from all around the country,” said Board President Marque Snow.  “The Board has been impressed with the firm’s review process and we feel confident we have been presented with the top candidates this country has to offer. We look forward to the upcoming meet and greet sessions and public interviews. It is our intent to select one of these finalists as the next leader of our school district.”

The application period closed Jan. 5. The Board received 74 applicants from various states around the country, including internal OPS candidates and candidates from throughout Nebraska.

The next step in the process include a public meet and greet session and public interviews by the Board of Education. The public is invited to meet the finalists next Tuesday, Jan. 30 at the Teacher Administrative Center, located at 3215 Cuming Street.

The meet and greet session will be held in the TAC Cafeteria from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Following that, the Board of Education will conduct finalist interviews from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
