OPPD Crews Battle Blizzard Conditions To Restore Power

After working through the day and night on Monday, OPPD crews were back at it on Tuesday as they try and get the power turned back on for every customer.

At the peak of Monday's storm, which brought blizzard conditions to some areas, nearly 11,000 customers were without power.  Spokesperson Jodi Baker says they set their game plan early Tuesday morning to attack the remaining outages, mainly in Saunders and Washington Counties.

Despite the blowing snow and difficult travel conditions, OPPD crews restored 80 percent of those nearly 11,000 outages in 24 hours.

"We are seeing a surge of call backs, primarily in the North Bend area on circuits that were recently restored," spokesperson Jodi Baker says.   As of noon on Tuesday there were about 1,300 customers still without power.

Baker says workers are running into snow covered roadways that forces them to take longer detours to get to the areas impacted.  Despite the tough conditions, Baker says most customers should be restored by the end of day Tuesday, by midnight.
