A winter storm is hammering the Omaha metro early Monday morning.
The storm has forced many school districts, businesses and churches to close their doors because of the inclement weather. You can find a full list of closings and cancellations here.
Omaha Police began accident alerts around 7:00 Monday morning, stating that any accidents that did not involve injuries would not be responded to by officers. Multiple accidents were reported across the metro during the morning commute.
Strong northwest wind will increase and gust to near 50 mph at times. Very heavy snow totals are likely in these areas (see map) and a Blizzard Warning is in place. Travel will be difficult to nearly impossible in many of these locations Monday as the day progresses. Whiteout conditions are likely.
OPPD officials say they are preparing for a long day as the wet, heavy snow and ice could cause problems.
